We are a Calgary-based spinoff, a medtech created to receive and commercialize new IP evolving from Project neuroArm - University of Calgary. Committed to developing and translating innovative technology for the operating room, including the next generation surgical robotics, the company brings together a multi-disciplinary team of surgeons, engineers, scientists and business leaders.
Founded and presided over by world-renowned neurosurgeon, visionary and innovator Garnette Sutherland (C.M., M.D., F.R.C.S), CEO, OrbSurgical Ltd. traces its roots to space R&D through world's first image-guided MR compatible neurosurgical robot called neuroArm. With Calgary's growing entrepreneurial culture, OrbSurgical Ltd. takes an ambitious leap towards bringing advanced surgical technologies to the global community through innovations in sensors, ai and robotics.

World-renowned neurosurgeon and visionary, Sutherland has introduced the dogma of disruptive innovation into the sphere of neurosurgery. Whether it is the world’s first ceiling mounted intra-operative MR imaging technology or the world’s first image-guided MR compatible robot for microsurgery and stereotaxy neuroArm, Sutherland continues to lead and pave the path to a future where surgery, robots, big data, machine intelligence and smart systems, interface. With vision of operating on cells using a micro-robotic arm, and of communities serviced by robots for efficient and cost-effective health care delivery, Sutherland inspires and commands his team with his signature brilliance and commitment to patient care.

Lama provides a niche for operating room integration of innovation, through experience and expertise in neurosurgical translation of image-guided robotics and linked innovations. Uniquely trained and instinctive leader, Lama oversees and ensures clinical integration of novel technologies into the operating room. Interfacing across specialties and institutions, she connects innovation to end-user needs, operating room work-flow and market adoption for improved patient care.

A gifted craftsman, Yang provides experiential resource and support to OrbSurgical’s R&D division. Yang has been instrumental in the initial and ongoing clinical integration of neuroArm technology into the neurosurgical operating room. His years of experience in biological-microsurgical research and natural talent for technology development, provide an integral balance amongst advanced technology, prototyping, functionality testing and application to surgery.
